Montserrat’s cultural icon and first calypso king, Justin “Hero” Cassell, passed away at 80. His soulful tunes graced stages since the 1950s, leaving an indelible mark on the island’s musical history.

As a pioneer of calypso, Hero’s legacy is deeply intertwined with the heartbeat of Montserrat’s culture.

He won a record of ten local calypso crowns and was the acclaimed songwriter for his late brother, Alphonsus “Arrow” Cassell.

The Caribbean mourns the loss of this prolific artist whose contributions shaped the region’s history and culture.

Our thoughts and prayers go to his family and the Montserratian community during this difficult time.
